Instructional Designer : Job Responsibilities and Work Requirements
- Collaborates with faculty subject matter experts, project leads/coordinator, OER Consultant, Library Services Technologist, Copyright Coordinator, to support the design of digital learning content using open publishing platforms like H5P and Pressbooks
- Applies expertise in the creation of multimedia interactives to engage learners
- Applies expertise creating micro instructional pieces such as: reflective questioning, script writing, and ancillary resources (i.e., PPTs, test-banks, and instructional guides)
- Designs instructional content based on information provided by the subject matter expert
- Applies instructional design principles that comply with AODA requirements and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles
- Creates mapping and design documents, storyboards, recommendation documents, and other required documentation
- Writes audio and video scripts for instructional multimedia
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of learning theory, technology, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and best practices in digital resource design and development
- Reviews OER projects for flow, copyright compliance, correct creative commons attributions, accessibility, AODA compliance and provides solutions and implements necessary corrections
- Applies expertise in technical writing to convey complex subject matter in a clear and concise manner
- Checks content and adjusts for APA 7th edition or subject matter style guide(s) for writing flow, copyright compliance, citations, and references
- Advises creative commons solutions for content, images, and multi-media for copyright compliance
- Checks for and completes missing metadata in online publishing formats
Minimum Educational Qualifications Requirements : Instructional Designer
- Three-year Diploma/Degree in Adult Education, Educational Technology, Training and Development or related field of study
- Five years of experience using project management and instructional design expertise in an academic, online learning, eLearning, instructional design, or digital resources related field
- Script writing/media production of media artifacts and/or interactive learning objects
- Excellent understanding of adult education principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with knowledge of current open technologies and publishing platforms
- Experience assisting faculty in defining instructional, curriculum, and assessment elements
- Strong writing skills with the ability to decipher complex content and convert it into meaningful chunks of information
- Experience incorporating technology and media to enhance instructional methods and improve the learners’ educational experience
