Summary of Duties

Under the direction of the Director of Resident Care (Head Nurse) or designated supervisor, evaluates, directs and maintains resident care routines including the administration of medications and assessment of resident’s physical/psychological and social health. Responsibilities may include direction of Care Aides in the provision of nursing care

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Plans with Director of Resident Care for physical, psychological and social care of residents

2. Provides direct nursing care, including administration of medications, medical treatments and procedures

3. Assists the physician with examinations, diagnostic tests and therapeutic measures

4. Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care treatments, and informs the Director of Resident Care and/or resident=s physician of significant changes in the condition of any resident

5. Follows facility policy, regulations and procedures in the administration and recording of medications

6. Maintains accurate records of resident’s health and health care requirements

7. Provides work direction to Care Aides by monitoring work activities and reassigning duties as necessary

8. Orients staff by demonstrating work routines and providing informal training sessions. Provides informal input into staff evaluations

9. Assist with admission and discharge of residents

10. Uses medical aseptic techniques as required to protect residents and prevent the spread of infection

11. Observes and removes from use malfunctioning and/or defective equipment and supplies and reports them to the Director of Resident Care

12. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant facility policy and procedures, particularly those concerning sanitation, safety and emergency procedures

13. Participates in medical and general staff meetings

14. Promotes and maintains positive communication with staff, residents and the public

15. Plans and provides teaching and counselling to residents and their families

16. Checks orders and receives supplies and equipment. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to supervisor.

Job qualifications

Education/Knowledge

Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current eligibility to practice nursing in the Province of B.C. or the Registered Psychiatric Nursing Association of B.C

Experience

Previous experience in geriatrics of long term care preferred

Physical: Must be in good health, free from communicable diseases and physically fit to perform above duties which include standing, bending, and assisting to lift residents using safety equipment

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Casual

Salary: $35.53-$46.65 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
