Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Youth Clinician to join the Child and Youth Mental Health Program in Richmond, BC. Apply today to join our team!


As a Youth Clinician with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
  • Using a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach to client care, be responsible for conducting individual, group and family counselling.
  • Perform duties including:
    • establishing trust with children and youth;
    • engaging youth at their level of readiness for change;
    • conducting screens for services;
    • conducting comprehensive assessments;
    • making appropriate referrals;
    • and assisting clients to develop and achieve their individualized treatment plan.
  • Provide treatment services to children, youth, and families to meet their needs at a level and locations that are accessible to the client.
About the Integrated Mental Health Program
Assessment and treatment for children (6-11 years of age) or youth (12-19 years of age), including their families, who are affected by serious and persistent mental health concerns. Services include counselling, interdisciplinary case management, crisis response and suicide risk assessment, and school outreach. The clinician’s primary role is to develop and provide a combination of individual, family, and group education and therapy sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Behavioural Science plus three (3) years’ recent related counselling experience with one (1) year of experience in a substance use treatment setting or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental health and substance use services and treatment protocols based on bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach to client care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice.
  • Comprehensive understanding of youth mental health and substance use related issues.
  • Broad knowledge of advanced counselling techniques.
  • Broad knowledge of bio-psycho-social-spiritual issues that may occur in response to changing health and alcohol and/or other drug needs.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated team of mental health and substance use specialists, clinical supervisors, and managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain mutually respectful and collaborative relationships with clients, colleagues, community partners, and all related support systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills to promote communication and leading to a cooperative approach to problem solving within a multi/interdisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with, and facilitate trust and respect among children, youth, and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and facilitate the development of an integrated system of mental health and substance use services, including working with school districts, staff, health care and other related professions.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather relevant information to make a multi-dimensional substance use assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, their family, staff, referral sources, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for treatment.
  • Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
